Bladder Fibrosis After Radiation Therapy & Homeopathic Support
Scar tissue in the bladder can occur after pelvic radiation.
Individual experience will vary in symptom presentation and severity.
Radiation injury to the bladder is often referred to as radiation cystitis. For some individuals, symptoms gradually improve over time. For others, irritation, inflammation, pressure, urinary urgency, pain, or fibrosis can continue long after treatment has ended.
From a homeopathic perspective, the body continues reacting as long as the system still holds the stress or “memory” of the original disruption.
How Homeopathy Looks at Radiation Injury
Homeopathy is based in the laws of energy which cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or matched.
You see this when two equal forces of energy press upon one another, their movement is stopped. Homeopathic remedies are used to match the disruptive energy connected to the symptoms. When we match the force causing the reaction, we address the root. Homeopathy counteracts the cause.
Remedies are chosen based on case history, possible exposure factors, and symptom presentation. The closer the remedy picture matches your symptom picture, the more successfully it will counter the disruptive force causing the symptoms.
When homeopathic remedies are matched appropriately, the body suddenly has respite and space to repair itself properly rather than reactively.
The body will always do what it needs to survive. When there are outside stressors affecting the body system, it will react accordingly to protect itself in the moment and continue to protect itself until the disruptive energy is gone.
Radiation therapy can cause the body to react by building scar tissue to protect more susceptible areas such as the bladder and kidneys. As long as the system has the memory of the radiation therapy, it may continue to protect itself even after the radiation therapy has stopped.
This continuous reaction within can eventually contribute to bladder fibrosis along with symptoms that make day to day life uncomfortable and painful.
Why Remedy Selection Matters
There are over 130 homeopathic remedies associated with bladder fibrosis and cystitis, so how do you know which one is right for you?
Choosing the best fit remedy for chronic care and recovery is the job of a certified homeopath.
Using remedies to relieve pain and discomfort in the moment is something you can do using homeopathic remedies available to you. Chronic care is different.
Chronic cases require understanding the full history, layers, sensitivities, exposures, and progression of symptoms over time.
Chronic care helps support recovery.
Acute care helps support the body through the moment.
When selecting homeopathic remedies in acute care, it’s extremely important to understand their individual remedy pictures so that you can choose the remedy that matches your symptom picture the closest.
Here’s where working with a homeopath becomes important.
It’s difficult to remain non-biased with yourself. Even homeopaths have homeopaths they consult with for their own needs for that exact reason.
When we read about a remedy, we always think that we need that remedy. Until we read about the next remedy and then we think we need that remedy. The power of suggestion is strong.
Homeopathic Dosing Is Different
Another big note to emphasize is that homeopathic remedies are not taken in the same format as pharmaceutical medicines or herbal tinctures.
Once the remedy takes hold of the counteracting symptom energy, there’s no need to continue. You simply pause while the remedy holds and allows your body to move back towards its healthier state.
If you continue to re-dose, you’re only putting more force on the symptom energy which can then overthrow the established balance.
Think of it like a teeter-totter.
You only need a certain amount of weight to balance the other side. Too much and it goes off kilter in the other direction.
Homeopaths are specialized in understanding remedy and symptom pictures, the balance of dosing, and recognizing when a different remedy may be necessary.
I will always encourage my clients to have and use homeopathic remedies as needed on their own for acute care. However, having a homeopath know and understand your full case history is pertinent to proper homeopathic treatment in chronic care.
Do not self-prescribe for chronic care.
